Hi, my name is Alex Yatskov; welcome to my homepage. I am a software engineer living in Washington State, USA. My interests include learning about technology, contributing to open source, studying the Japanese language, and enjoying nature.
FooSoft Productions goes back to my days in high school, when I thought it would be cool to attribute my work to a fictitious corporation. It is a combination of “Foo”, a common placeholder variable name used in programming, and “Soft” (think some faceless tech giant). Despite not being a real corporation, it continues to be a personal brand that I use for many of my projects.
I graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in Computing Software Systems in 2006 and have been actively building my career as a software developer since 2005, specializing in custom game engine and tool development.
In 2014, I went on hiatus to enroll in the Cyber Informatics Master’s program at Keio University, in Japan. This rare opportunity allowed me to combine my passion for programming with my ever-growing interest in the Japanese language.
Upon graduating in 2016, I returned to the United States to once again resume my journey in software engineering.
Writing critical platform components to power games on Xbox and Windows.
Developing the custom Guild Wars 2 engine, tools, and core tech for new games.
Building tools and writing gameplay code for several Nintendo DS games.
